Juanita Brooks

As I was driving to tennis yesterday, I was listening to my favourite jazz program on the radio, when the announcer mentioned something being a tribute to the late Juanita Brooks. I couldn't believe it. Juanita was such a young vibrant lovely person, with the most beautiful voice. Back when I lived in New Orleans the first time, my friend Bill was a base player in a band and Juanita was the female singer. I used to go to listen to them every week and went to their practice sessions. Juanita and I became friends. After I moved to Washington I lost touch with them, but my friend Jim told me that Bill died while I was up in DC. Then a year after I moved back, Jim died. Then yesterday I heard on the radio that Juanita had died, I am so sorry. Farewell old friends.
