And the oil continues to gush

Let us look at the losses caused by the oil in the Gulf to date that we know about;

Total deaths;

11 people

679 birds
296 sea turtles
37 mammals (including dolphins)
untold numbers of fish, shell fish etc.

The oyster beds will probably be permanently eliminated. Fishing in the area will be eliminated for untold years.

Let us look at the economic losses.

Fishermen have lost their livelihood, be it shrimp, fish, oysters or crabs, as have many related industries.

Hotels, restaurants, and people dependant on the tourist trade have lost their income.

People with vacation homes and camps have lost the use of their investments, as they can no longer go there to fish or camp.

Workers in the oil companies are out of work.

P&G Oyster Company, the country's oldest oyster processor and distributor ceased its operation. This company has dealt exclusively in Louisiana oysters for 134 years, the people that they purchased from can no longer work.

Our tax base will continue to shrink.

Our property values will continue to decline.

And the oil continues to gush.
