Sunday I went to the festival in the French Quarter. It was fantastic. I went with a friend from tennis, and we heard four different groups, my favourite was Little Brian and the Travelers. They played a fantastic mix of Zydeco, blended with Reggae, pop and rock. Other groups, also really great. played traditional zydeco, and Cajun music. there were many stalls for people who like to buy things, including lots of food, naturally. the festival was a combination of the tomato, sea food and zydeco music festivals. Only in New Orleans. the crowd was also a mix, mostly casual, but after listening to three groups my feet began to hurt, so I sat down on the curb to listen. As I sat there I saw an incredible pair of shoes go by. Black patent with inserts of dark red alligator skin. My eyes traveled up and saw a pair of dark pants with a crease so sharp you could have cut your finger on it, up to a shirt which was a sort of plaid, but not the lumberjack kind, in the exact matching color to the shoes, up to the head, with a nice hat, down to the hand, lots of gold rings, and watch and bracelets. hmm, everyone else had on shorts or jeans, but he looked like he had just stepped out of a fashion magazine. When he got to the front of the crowd, the leader of the band introduced him to the crowd, Batiste, 97, still playing and still dancing, which he did. Cool. I want to be him when I'm 97.
Here are some more pics.the building in the background is the mint, between bands we went in to see the museum inside. Great building.
