Maryland

Well, today I had a meeting scheduled with the leasing agent, the new tenant and her agent at my house in Rockville. So I borrowed John's car and drove over. the tenant seems very nice, as does her agent, and my agent is nice and helpful, and the leases were signed and we were all happy. Unfortunately I was not as happy with the contractor, the work he did was nice, the new floors are nice, the paint on the walls is nice, but they never cleaned up after themselves, they never replace the toilet roll holder or the mirror in the half bath. the put the closet doors on wrong in the master bedroom and the baseboard that they installed in the basement did not meet the floor, and they had not installed shoe molding. the cleaning which was supposed to have been done a month or more ago was not done. I still have not been able to reach him after 4 phone calls and an email.

Next problem, I need a management agent, I spoke with on in Gaithersburg who said they would be happy to manage the property, for a fee of 8% of the rent. good. I have no problem with that so back in the car, and drove to Gaithersburg, seemed like the ends of the earth. Got there, wadded through a pile of papers before she gave me more papers to read, one of which said they wanted $400 fee because they didn't get to rent out the house and a $50 fee for doing nothing when the place was empty. They did not mention that before I drove all the way the hell to Gaithersburg.

They did not mention either fee before I drove all the way out there, so I was not pleased shall we say. So I took my bat and ball and went home. Now I will try to make up with Mary's management company and see if I can work out something with them. What a pain.

Anyway here are my lovely new floors

Freda, if your travels ever bring you through Louisville, let me know. We have a guest room and can show you around. (I'm thinking Maryland, New Orleans... we're not exactly a straight line but...)
